Cataract

A Cataract Procedure You Can Look Forward To!

The cataract world has changed a lot in the last few years. For many years, the goal of a cataract procedure was to remove the cloudy lens from the eye and then replace it with a man-made single prescription (monofocal) lens. The patient then would rely on glasses or contact lenses to improve their distance or near vision. We at Mt Tam Vision Center have had the pleasure to work closely with some of the top surgeons of the Bay Area as the new generations of Refractive Implants have become available. This has allowed us to offer more attractive options than ever before to achieve a glasses-free lifestyle.

Refractive Intraocular Lens (IOL) Implants use different technologies to combine both a distance and near vision prescription in a single lens. The multifocal IOL’s such as like the ReSTOR or the TECNIS, act much like bifocal glasses or contacts with both prescriptions in the same lens. The accommodating IOL’s, like the CRYSTALENS, work entirely differently and rely on the muscles inside your eye to change the position of the lens allowing you to change your focus between distance and near.

As with any medical technology or procedure, it is important to be sure you are a good candidate. If a glasses-free lifestyle appeals to you, allow us at Mt Tam Vision Center to help you determine if any or which of these Premium IOL’s is right for you.
