Dr. Lassa Frank will be leading a team of three doctors to provide free eye care for the poor of Papantla, Mexico.  This small town is located about a three and a half hour drive north of Veracruz.  See map  The doctors will see up to 1,000 patients in two days.  They first will triage the patient's problems.  Those things that can be fixed easily, such as the treatment of an infection or glasses for seeing, will be provided immediately.  For those conditions that either require surgery or long term care, the patient will be diagnosed, educated about the condition and what can be done about it, and then referred to the local service club who is sponsoring the clinic.  That club then takes that patient on as a club project to make sure that they get the care they need.

All in all, it is a lot of work but also very gratifying.
