For many years before the advent of INFANTSEE, Dr. Frank had been providing free baby checks for the community.  Although pediatricians do a wonderful job of providing screenings, they are just that, a screening.  There are certain skill sets and specialized equipment that an eyecare professional has that a pediatrician won’t.  During the course of the baby check, we check the health, as well as the developmental state of the eyes.  The most important thing we do is check for risk factors that can contribute to the development of Amblyopia.

If the child has a lazy eye (an eye that isn’t aligned with the other) or if there is a large difference in the Rx for each eye, then as a survival technique the child will literally turn off one eye.  When that happens, the child will not develop all of the connections between the eye and the brain.  The result is an adult who in bad cases can’t even see the big “E” on the chart with one eye, even with the best possible correction on.  This is what we call Amblyopia.  If it is caught early enough, then this result can be prevented.

If you have a little one (6 months to a year old), or if you have friends or family who do, please take advantage of this free offer.  Call us at 415-453-8906 to make an appointment for your Free Baby Check!

Dr. Frank has also been working with the local schools for many years.  During seminars that he has taught to teachers and school nurses, Dr. Frank received a lot of feedback that led him to develop the “Student Vision Evaluation Program”.  This program is designed to help teachers and school nurses who think there may be a vision or binocular vision problem affecting the learning of a student, but don’t have the skills or instrumentation to tell for sure.  We provide a free screening to determine if there is a problem and if a comprehensive exam is appropriate.

If your child’s physician, teacher, or school nurse suspects a vision problem, or if they just aren’t sure, have them call us at 415-453-8906 or have them fill out the following to request a Free Student Vision Evaluation.
